Bronx Botanical Garden Balloon Flowers

I went to the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx today to do some live painting.  There was another flower I really wanted to do but it was inaccessible so I had to settle for taking a picture of it to do in the studio.  Then I found these purple Balloon Flowers and decided to do two ATC size paintings of the flowers.  I am pretty happy with the way they turned out considering that they are the first paintings I have done in many months.  It was a challenge to get the variation of color and shadow that I wanted because I am so unused to the medium.  But, I’m satisfied.  It was hot and humid and I was right in the sun and I got a terrible sunburn that will turn into a terrible farmers tan!  After I was mostly done with the paintings I decided to seek out a place in the shade for my next painting.  You can find it in the next blog entry.
